Persevering
Past the Pressure
“Look at a stone cutter hammering away at his rock, perhaps
a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it.
Yet at the hundred-and-first blow it will split
in two, and I know it was not the last blow that did it,
but all that had gone before.” ~ Jacob A. Riis
What could you do in your life if you only possessed a
little more perseverance?
How many more sales could you have made if you would have
made those extra phone calls or would the business that failed
still be alive and flourishing if you had fought a little
harder in the evening hours?
William Feather said, “Success seems to be largely a matter
of hanging on after others have let go.” Meaning there will be
many talented people who give up before their talent can become
realized. It has been said that it often takes someone twenty
years to become an over night success. Think about that the
next time someone tells you that you do not have the talent to
create financial freedom.
The bigger your dream the greater sacrifice and the longer
the time that is required to achieve that dream. Building the
Titanic took longer than building a canoe. Someone once said,
“Difficult things take a long time, impossible things a little
longer.” This is not meant for you to lower your standards so
that you can fulfill your dreams sooner but this should cause
you to expand your dreams because now you know that delay is
not denial.
The people that are remembered in the history books often
spent their life in pursuit of their dream, and some even died
before they could see their dream a reality. Be prepared to
spend the time and fight through the persecution in order to
achieve to what you set out to, for this is part of the journey
for everyone person carrying a dream.
When I first begun to speak about God wanting His people to
prosper and to expand their dreams I was asked not to speak
anymore in church and suffered so much backlash that I
eventually had to leave and go to another church after being
let go by my pastor. And that was only the beginning. But, the
greater price I pay now, the closer I will be to realize my
dream tomorrow.
The phrase has been spoken, “There is no telling how many
miles you will have to run while chasing a dream.” But, if you
are counting the miles you need to change your dream. When you
are chasing your dream, your true passion, the effort required
is not counted as a loss. The reason is that the chase of that
dream keeps you alive. You may get beat up, but you feel alive.
You may become exhausted, but you feel alive.
Working in your true passion while moving toward your dream
is what makes you feel alive. An Olympic athlete running the
race does not stop to hear what other people are saying about
him. The only thing that will make him stop running is the
finish line. So, run baby, run!
And remember the words of Christopher Morley, who said, “Big
shots are only little shots who keep shooting.”
